In October of this year, I witnessed a random crime in which I chased down the assailant to detain for the police.

Consequently, I became aware that that crime rates were up in LA County, many people I knew had also experienced random acts of violence, and that the homeless were carrying unlicensed firearms to protect themselves. This city was in a vicious circle of violence.

In the moment that the victim was standing in front of me, bleeding out from a stab wound, I had to make a choice. After calling for my friends to get him the first aid he needed, I said to myself, "I'm not living in Gotham City; I live in the City of Angels." And with that I put myself in harm's way for the sake of my city.

For whatever systemic causes, our leaders and law enforcers are hard-pressed to deal with this problem. I'm simply a citizen and do not have the authority they have to solve this problem. All I can do is pray that God come among us to heal the division, chaos and violence. In words of the prophet Amos:

"At that time I will restore David's fallen tent...my PEOPLE will rebuild and inhabit the ruined cities."
